Holcim Romania has completed the acquisition process whereby the Franco-Swiss building materials manufacturer takes over 100% of Somaco’s shares. The acquisition was authorized by the Competition Council in September 2019.
Thus, starting November 1st, Holcim Romania welcomes the Somaco team in the family of companies that operate locally and, at the same time, in the LafargeHolcim group.
Through the acquisition of Somaco, we mark the entry into the prefabricated materials market, a very important step towards diversifying our local portfolio. And now we will be able to provide integrated solutions in order to meet the needs of our clients in more types of projects. We will work together with our colleagues from Somaco, the company maintaining its status as a standalone company, with a strong market brand and a high performing team
– Horia Adrian, CEO Holcim Romania
Somaco provides prefabricated solutions for industrial, commercial, logistical and residential structures, prefabricated solutions for road, electrical and water-channel infrastructure, as well as masonry and thermal insulation systems with aerated blocks. The company has approximately 900 employees in six production units in the country: five precast concrete elements plants in Teiuș, Timișoara, Târgoviște, Buzău, and Roman, as well as a plant for the production of aerated blocks in Adjud.
We are prepared and glad to enter a new stage in the development of Somaco’s business. We will benefit from the knowledge of a group with over 180 years of combined experience in the market, which will keep us competitive and help us to remain a reliable partner for intelligent constructions
– Sorin Miron, CEO Somaco
Locally, Holcim Romania works with Geocycle Romania – waste management for co-processing in the kilns of cement plants, and StartCasa – a company that offers interior design services, acting as an intermediary between the final client and the designers.
We are very glad that after 11 years of developing the company, Somaco became part of a strong international group, LafargeHolcim. The Somaco management team and employees worked extraordinarily and managed to grow the company more than five times during this period, both organically through investments in technology and people, as well as through two strategic acquisitions which allowed the doubling of production capacity and expansion in new markets. We are confident that the Somaco business and the team will benefit from multiple opportunities within LafargeHolcim, and the new shareholder will benefit from the extraordinary platform that Somaco represents for developing innovative products and solutions, as well as accelerating growth in this market segment in Romania
– Cornel Marian, Managing Partner ORESA
